Cool as a Cucumber with Traditional Tzatziki

It has been found that women become aroused by the scent of cucumbers. Whether that’s true or not, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize why these long, cool vegetables are considered to be an aphrodisiac.

Be that as it may, from a health perspective, cucumber is the next best thing to a natural diet pill and the greatest ingredient for a detox. Well, in my opinion anyway.  I’m on a health kick, so I made Tzatziki last night (cucumber dip), and decided to use the excess juice from the cucumber for my smoothie, only  to discover that this is the best diuretic ever! I LOVE garlic and added more than I should have to my tzatziki, which made my mouth quite dry that I started drinking copious amounts of water – adding to the detox process. Bonus!

Tzatziki is a traditional Greek dip and SO easy to make. And it’s very healthy and versatile.

All you need is 1 medium cucumber, peeled, seeds removed and cut into small chunks, ½ teaspoons salt, 2 teaspoons finely chopped onion, 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (or Bulgarian), 1 small clove garlic, grated (or crushed), 1½ teaspoons chopped fresh dill, the juice of 1 medium lemon and a splash of olive oil.

First grate the cucumber (in a blender or by hand), squeeze out the excess juice through a sieve, and set aside the juice for your smoothie. Then add all the above ingredients with the cucumber pulp to a blender, mix it up, and serve as a sauce, dressing, topping or a dip. It goes especially well with lemon and herb chicken kebabs.  It’s simply sensational!
